No. A refurbished laptop from Back in Use is delivered ready to use, but without paid programs like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. This software is owned by Microsoft and must be purchased separately through an official provider. Fortunately, there are clear and safe ways to do that.
Your laptop works perfectly, but without Microsoft Office
At Back in Use, you receive a device that is fully ready for use: Windows or macOS is already installed, and all you need to do is set your preferences. But programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint are not included by default.
This is because the software requires a paid license. We are not allowed to provide it automatically, just like with most new laptops. The choice is yours: you decide whether to purchase these programs and from which provider.
Where can you safely buy Word, Excel, and PowerPoint?
There are two safe ways to buy Microsoft Office:
- Through Microsoft itself, either as a one-time purchase or as a Microsoft 365 subscription: View the official Microsoft 365 offer
- Through a reliable online store like Bol.com, where you can often buy licenses for a single device
- Through cd-keys, a platform where you can buy Office licenses at a lower price

Are there also free alternatives?
Yes. Many customers also use free alternatives such as:
LibreOffice: completely free, works offline, and includes a word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation program.
Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides: work online via your browser with a free Google account.
These programs are suitable for basic use and often open Word or Excel files without issues. Only if you really need the official versions (for example for work or school) do we recommend Microsoft Office.
How do I know what I need?
Do you mainly use your laptop to type documents, read emails, view invoices, or manage your banking? Then you might not need a paid Office package at all. Do you still want Word and Excel as you are used to? Then you can easily buy them online and install them yourself with a license key.
